About the workshop
The general aim of the workshop is to provide progress in our understanding of regional variation in Mycenaean pottery, including aspects such as its diachronic dynamics, its expression across various pottery classes, ways of quantification, role of trend-setting workshops, and consequences for inter-regional synchronisms.
Therefore, this two-day workshop is not meant as a representative overview of regional variation in Mycenaean pottery, as this would require a very different kind of event. Here we will be using site-based or region-based case studies as a way to stimulate discussion of ceramic regionalism out of which a better comprehension of this phenomenon may emerge.
The first day of the workshop (Thursday, October 27) is devoted to Peloponnese (plus Aegina, 7 papers), with a final paper providing a Cretan perspective to ceramic regionalism. The second day focuses on Central Greece (plus the island of Kea and the Eastern slopes of Mt. Olympus), with a final paper offering a comparative perspective to regionalism. Each day will conclude with a discussion.
